The importance of civility in the practice of law

Last month, CAALA inducted into its Hall of Fame four fine lawyers: Gary Dordick, Carl Douglas, Gretchen Nelson, and Brian Panish. Each of these represents the highest ideals of civility in our profession.

The legal profession is built on principles that strive for justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law. At the core of this noble pursuit lies the concept of legal civility, which refers to the courteous and respectful behavior exhibited by legal professionals throughout their practice. Legal civility fosters an environment of professionalism, cooperation, and effective dispute resolution. I’d like to explore the significance of legal civility in the practice of law and how it contributes to a fair and efficient judicial system.
