What we raise, is what we give away
“I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.” — Maya Angelou
Los Angeles Trial Lawyers’ Charities and Orange County Trial Lawyers’ Charities are both “pass through” organizations: What we raise, is what we give away.
The work that we both do – from donating adaptive tricycles to building low-income housing – is only possible because of the generous support of our donors. LATLC and OCTLC welcome both large and small donors throughout the year. However, our biggest support comes from our annual fundraisers.
For LATLC, we host three different annual events: the Summer Soiree, the Golf Tournament, and our newest fundraiser, the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.
SUMMER SOIREE – CASINO FOR A CAUSE, July 22, 2023: LATLC is returning to its roots this year and bringing back “Casino Night” as well as the Texas Hold ’Em Poker Tournament. We are holding it at the beautiful Rolling Greens in downtown LA’s Art’s District. So, get out your fanciest outfits (and most comfortable shoes) and join us. Tickets and a very limited number of sponsorships are still available.
10th ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT, September 18, 2023: Last’s year’s rain forced us to push the 2022 Golf Tournament into this year. So, we are “catching up” and holding a second tournament this fall. Not only will you enjoy a great day of golf, but Steve Vartazarian has also promised that his famous luau will be part of the live auction! Sponsorships and foursomes will open soon.
3-ON-3 BASKETBALLL TOURNAMENT, February 25, 2024: This event started during the pandemic when indoor fundraising was impossible. Little did we know that it would become a major event, raising more than $100,000 this year! It specifically allows us to purchase adaptive tricycles for the Great Tryke Giveaway. Each year we have nearly doubled the donations because of this event. We are returning to the Sports Academy and have already booked the event for next year.
OCTLC has already established two major fundraisers: the Luau and our famous Roast, as well as a very “hot” event to raise funds.
3rd ANNUAL LUAU, September 9, 2023: This event kick-started OCTLC and what we have been able to do since we began. The third Luau will be in Newport Dunes in Newport Beach. It is a wonderful, family-friendly fundraiser on the beach with spectacular dancing and food. We bring in about $50,000 from this event and we hope to raise even more this year.
BADWATER ULTRAMARATHON, July 4-6, 2023: Smaller fundraising is also important to our success and the current OCTLC president will also be putting the suffering in fundraising by raising money for OCTLC for the third year by running the 135-mile Badwater Race in Death Valley. Known as the “World’s Toughest Foot Race,” Michelle West has in past years, and will again, request donations for the Orange County Trial Lawyers’ Charities while suffering through this brutal desert run.
ANNUAL ROAST, April 22, 2023: The extremely funny and successful roast of attorney Eric Traut raised approximately $60,000 this year. The first roast raised about the same amount with honoree Keith More delivering $10,000 personally and even getting his accountant to donate $10,000 to OCTLC.
Fundraising is critical to the success of our organizations and what we do. More importantly, we make sure we put the FUN in fundraising and our signature events.
