There is a children’s song (often connected to the Girl Scouts) with these words:

Make new friends

But keep the old

One is silver and the other gold.

For Los Angeles and Orange County Trial Lawyers’ Charities, this song rings true.

Last month, at the CAALA Convention, we made so many new and saw lots of old friends at our booth. As is our tradition, we host a service project so attendees can not only learn about Trial Lawyers’ Charities, but also be an immediate part of our mission – to make a difference in our communities.

More than 100 people drew or wrote notes on cloth squares that are being transformed into baby quilts for children caught in the legal system. CAALA board member and incoming LATLC president, Megan Klein and her family are assembling the squares into adorable quilts that will be donated to CASA of Los Angeles and CASA of Orange County.

But transforming new friends into old friends is really up to you. OCTLC and LATLC provide so many opportunities throughout the year. Not just fundraising, but community events.

OCTLC is celebrating Halloween in “Spooktacular” style! We are sponsoring the Trunk or Treat event at KidWorks, a group that inspires tomorrow’s leaders. We are both a corporate sponsor and will volunteer at this fun event.

OCTLC will also be participating in the Boys and Girls Clubs holiday toy give away this year as well, where we sponsor, assist kids in shopping for gifts for their families and then wrap gifts for them. It takes place in December at various locations, providing loads of volunteer opportunities. This event is a real treat and brings a lot of joy to all who participate.

LATLC’s next two signature events are the Day of dignity for those experiencing homelessness and the incredible Comfort and Joy holiday giving in south Los Angeles.

On October 19, we will return to The Center in Hollywood. We provide a hot breakfast, mobile showers, chiropractors, legal assistance, podiatry, dental care, manicures, and even pet care. Last year more than 400 guests attended the event. We are also hosting a “store” with gently used clothing for men, women and children. If you have anything to donate, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Save the date – December 7 – for Comfort and Joy. More than 100 volunteers will give out household items, groceries and more than 2,300 toys to 500 families in South Los Angeles. More to come!

These incredible events all depend on our old and new friends’ support – you can sponsor our activities and become an honorary board member. All donations are tax-deductible. You can volunteer your time at any of our service projects. Both are pure gold!
