2025 March

The first two months of 2025 were powerful. And March is still coming in like a “lion.”

In the last column, we highlighted the disastrous Southern California fires, and how both OCTLC and LATLC provided immediate support to first responders, identified projects where we could quickly replace items, and are now working with organizations – large and small – who need our help.

You are making it possible.

Fire relief effort

Rebuilding our community will take months, probably years. We have extended the LATLCFIRE site (https://LATLCFIRE.givesmart.com) through at least the end of 2025. Donations to that site will solely be used for community relief. You will have the opportunity to grow that fund at the March 8 CAALA Gala.

But that is not ALL that OCTLC and LATLC are working on.

Current charity work

Even with so much focus on fire relief, both LATLC and OCTLC are still providing assistance and hosting volunteer service projects with our partner charities throughout Southern California.

OCTLC recently joined Orange County Bar Association at a winter food event at the OC Food Bank, sorting, labeling and packaging groceries for families in need.

This month, volunteers will participate in Triumph Foundation’s Handcycling Clinic in Anaheim. This incredible group helps children, adults, and veterans with spinal cord injury/disorder to “triumph” over obstacles they face and to inspire them to keep moving forward with their lives by pushing themselves to get better every day.

LATLC’s youth sports program has been busy. Not only have we hosted our traditional opening day events with special needs Little League groups on March 1, Buddy Ball in Long Beach and Challengers in Woodland Hills, LATLC worked with the 2023 world champion El Segundo Little League to replace equipment that East Altadena Little League players lost in the fires.

CAALA’s Women in Law Committee is co-hosting our Women’s Empowerment Day at the Clare|Matrix addiction treatment center later this month. Volunteers will make vision boards and participate in a self-defense class with the residents. LATLC was honored last year by Clare|Matrix for this annual event.

In the next few months, you can help OCTLC and LATLC continue our work by supporting our major fundraisers.

Orange County roast of Minh Nguyen, April 5

On April 5, OCTLC is roasting former CAALA President Minh Nguyen. Don’t wait – the event always sells out. For sponsorships, table and ticket purchases, email Susan Kelley at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Hollywood Casino Night, May 31

LATLC returns to the beautiful Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for our next Casino Night and Poker Tournament on May 31. Sponsorships are going fast, so visit our website (latlc.org) to purchase yours today.

These major fundraising events support our annual grants, signature events like the joint Great Tryke Giveaway this fall, and volunteer projects. Be a “lamb” and be part of LATLC and OCTLC by volunteering and joining us at our annual fundraisers.
